Many retired people come to spend their old age in Mondorf-les-Bains, a small town that is easy to get around on foot and has all the necessary services.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mondorf-les-Bains is first known as a spa town. The discovery of a warm, mineral-rich spring in the middle of the 19th century led to the construction of a spa, which has been a great success ever since. Today, 380,000 people still visit the spa every year. Together with the 700,000 people who visit the casino every year, this number gives an idea of the tourist appeal of the town of Mondorf-les-Bains. The renovation of the hotel in the spa area has given a boost to the number of visitors,\" says Lex Delles, the young deputy mayor of the municipality. For our part, we are doing our utmost to support the sector, in particular with the setting up, within the municipality itself, of a service intended for the reception of tourists and the promotion of tourist activities.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A population attracted by the many services available<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.athome.lu\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_4539-mondorf-1200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.athome.lu\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_4539-mondorf-1200.jpg\" alt=\"Living in mondorf-les-bains\" class=\"wp-image-11893\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.athome.lu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_4539-mondorf-1200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.athome.lu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_4539-mondorf-1200-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.athome.lu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_4539-mondorf-1200-8x12.jpg 8w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, this attractiveness is not limited to passing tourists. With 5,209 inhabitants in Mondorf-les-Bains, Ellange and Altwies and a population growth of 2.5% over the last ten years, the municipality is attracting a growing population. Many retired people are selling their properties and moving to the centre of Mondorf,\" explains the mayor. It's quite simple to explain: we are lucky to have a very flat village centre, where all the services are present. So it's very accessible and that suits this population well. Moreover, two new residences have just been built in the centre and all the flats have already been bought. Of course, this high demand tends to increase prices...\".<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mondorf-les-Bains is home to many general practitioners and specialists of all kinds. The commune has also created a social service which allows elderly people to obtain help with certain complex administrative procedures. The shops, restaurants and sports clubs are also numerous and varied.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Managing a large daily flow of vehicles<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Because of its location on the French border, Mondorf-les-Bains also has problems to deal with, particularly in terms of mobility. Every morning, 4,600 cars cross the border in Mondorf, making the municipality the second largest crossing point between France and Luxembourg. <em>\"This is obviously problematic<\/em>says Lex Delles. <em>Fortunately, we are lucky enough to get on well with the neighbouring French municipality of Mondorff, and we were able to consult each other about a traffic light on French territory that was causing traffic jams here. The problem was quickly resolved. But if this flow of vehicles is not easy to manage, it must also be said that it benefits the shopkeepers of Mondorf-les-Bains: many French people come to do their shopping here. <\/em>Public transport is an interesting alternative to relieve congestion in the centre of Mondorf in the morning and evening. Several RGTR lines already serve the village and a cross-border line now takes French border residents directly to Kirchberg.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It should be noted that the work on the main road in Mondorf, which will take another five years, will not solve the morning traffic jams. However, in the long run, it should be beneficial for all residents. <em>\"The road will be narrower and will give more space to soft mobility. First of all, 18 houses were built with the Housing Fund. In addition, the municipality has bought other houses and made them available at reasonable prices. But Lex Delles and the municipality of Mondorf-les-Bains do not intend to stop there. <em>\"We have targeted our actions on three categories of the population: young people, families and the elderly<\/em>he says. <em>For young people between 18 and 28 years old, we offer shared accommodation in the Marie Felten House. The price is fixed according to the income of each person. In addition to the rent, we ask for a small amount of money to be saved so that the young person can find a traditional rental property later on.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For families, four houses for sale and four flats for rent will be available soon. Finally, there is also a special offer for the elderly. <em>\"Some older people also have money problems,<\/em> reminds the deputy mayor. <em>For them, we try to buy one-bedroom flats in the city centre which we make available for a rent that does not exceed one third of the person's income. We plan to buy 15 such flats.
