The Gasperich district in the south of the capital may not be the most densely populated area today, but that could change very soon. The nearby Ban de Gasperich area is currently experiencing a real boom, with residential buildings and other infrastructure being built on its territory. Within a few years, the area could become a city within a city.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surrounded by the districts of Hollerich and Gare to the north, Bonnevoie-sud to the east and Cessange to the west, Gasperich is the southernmost district of the capital. With a surface area of 445.14 hectares and a population of 6,465 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2018), Gasperich has seen its population increase significantly. It currently represents just over 5% of the population of Luxembourg City, but this could change in a few years' time. Gasperich is a cosmopolitan district with around one hundred different nationalities: Luxembourgish (around 34%), French, Portuguese, Italian, Belgian, German, Spanish, Romanian, etc. It attracts a rather young and active population and young households.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the crossroads of major motorways<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Among the many advantages of the Gasperich district, mobility comes first. Located between the Cessange and Gasperich crosses, the Gasperich district is at the crossroads of the A6 (towards Belgium), A1 (towards Findel airport and Germany), A3 (towards France) and close to the A4 (towards Esch-sur-Alzette). This attractiveness is reinforced by the presence of the central station and the Howald ring road station, just a few steps away.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The district also has a strong public transport system. Several bus lines connect it to the railway station, the city centre and the Kirchberg. Numerous car parks, including for people with reduced mobility, as well as the P+R Kockelscheuer, the P+R Sud and the extension of the P+R Sud, offer users the possibility of parking, recharging their electric car, using public transport or even a vel'OH! available at the various stations provided for this purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A complete school offer<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In order to best meet the educational needs of young households, the Gasperich district has several schools in its area. The Gasperich school welcomes children from cycles 1 to 4. Since the start of the 2017-2018 school year, schoolchildren have also been able to attend the brand new Vauban French-speaking campus. A cr\u00e8che for the youngest children and a school hostel for children aged 3 to 12 complete the offer.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leisure and recreation areas<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Gasperich district also invites its residents to relax with its many green spaces and leisure facilities, which is a plus for this district surrounded by major roads. The Kockelscheuer is a must for sports and nature lovers. Its ponds offer an ideal setting for a walk or a running session, while its infrastructures are becoming increasingly popular. Its indoor skating rink, open to the general public from mid-September to mid-April, is a delight for skating fans of all ages. Its miniature golf course and its bowling green attract more than one person when the weather is fine and its multi-sports complex allows you to practice your favourite sport all year round. In summer, the Kockelscheuer also attracts tourists who stay at the campsite.<\/span>
The rest of the district also has facilities. Multi-sports fields, tennis courts, petanque courts, a sports hall, a skate park, a football stadium and seven playgrounds offer many opportunities for relaxation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Economic activity is thriving<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to its strategic location, Gasperich is home to a number of companies and businesses. PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the Wort, several car garages and shopping centres such as Auchan and Primavera strengthen the economic activity of the district.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ban de Gasperich: a pharaonic project<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Among the City of Luxembourg's flagship projects, the Ban de Gasperich project is without doubt the most important. By 2027, the inhabitants of the district will be able to enjoy a new city within the city, near Gasperich. The figures for this new district are breathtaking. 2,000 homes will be built, as well as 430,000 square metres of shops and offices, which will attract numerous companies such as Deloitte, BMW Bilia Emond, and the brand new Cloche d'Or shopping centre with no less than 140 shops.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new railway station and a multi-modal centre, a connection to the tram planned for 2023 and a new 2,000-space P+R car park will make it possible to accommodate the 3,000 inhabitants and 25,000 workers expected to live there. The future national stadium will be directly accessible from the Kockelscheuer boulevard, which will pass over the motorway.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relaxation and nature, dear to the neighbourhood, will obviously not be forgotten. A 16-hectare park with a 7,000 m2 pond will be created. Sports facilities for everyone will be provided: a playground, a multi-sports field, a beach volleyball and petanque court, and a picnic area. An alluvial forest and marshy areas are planned along the Drosbach.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The future National Fire and Rescue Centre, including a training centre, will be located on the Ban de Gasperich. It will bring together the fire brigade, the emergency services administration, the emergency services centre and the National Institute for Emergency Training.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
