Have you just arrived in Luxembourg? Do you already live here but will be moving soon? When you move into a new home, whether it's a flat or a house, there are a number of things you need to do, especially with your energy suppliers. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A connection to electricity and gas as soon as you move in<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unlike in France and Belgium, for example, when you move into a home in Luxembourg, it is already connected to electricity and gas. This supply is provided by a default energy supplier, which is designated by the Institut Luxembourgeois de R\u00e9gulation (ILR).

This procedure is relatively practical as it allows you to benefit from electricity and gas in your home as soon as you arrive. It also saves you from having to deal with additional administrative procedures during your move, which is usually a busy time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gas and electricity supply yes, but temporary and expensive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

However, this default connection to electricity and\/or gas also has two major drawbacks.

First of all, this is a temporary solution: it is only valid for the first six months of your move. After this period, you will be obliged to take out a contract with the supplier of your choice, otherwise you will no longer be supplied with energy and you will have to pay the costs associated with the cut-off.

This default contract is also always more expensive (more than 10% extra) than a contractual tariff. In addition, from the third month of supply onwards, a monthly charge of \u20ac10, known as the \"time default charge\", is added to the default tariff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing a supplier quickly after your move<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For these reasons, it is advisable to contact the supplier of your choice as soon as possible to conclude a new contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
