Your move is about to take place: your boxes are ready and your mover is booked. <\/span><br><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> You've done the hard part. But before you can say goodbye and settle into your new home for good, there are still a few moving procedures to complete.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Steps to take before your move<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Before you move into your new house or flat, several transfers (or connections) must be made:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you already had gas and electricity, you must transfer your contracts. If not, you must request a connection from the suppliers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Don't forget to cancel your contracts if, for example, you no longer have a gas supply in your new home.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For fixed-line telephone, television and Internet services, you should also inform your operator of the change of address and therefore the transfer of lines. Moving house is also an opportunity to compare the Internet, TV and mobile offers available in Luxembourg to choose the best contract.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For the supply of water, you should contact the local authority.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you are moving in the middle of the school year, register your child in the new school well in advance. If your child does not change schools, do not forget to inform the school of your new address.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Remember to print our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.athome.lu\/blog\/blog\/check-list-demenagement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">moving checklist<\/a>&nbsp;to help you.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Administrative procedures<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When changing address, several formalities must be completed, particularly with the local authority:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Declaration of arrival: this must be made within 8 days of moving to your new commune (since 1 January 2010).<sup>er<\/sup> April 2016, it is no longer necessary to make a declaration of exit in the municipality you are leaving)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Registration on the electoral roll: if you are a Luxembourg resident, in principle you will not have to do anything. For non-Luxembourg residents, you must apply for registration in order to be able to vote in local and European elections. <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Renewing your identity card: if you change your address, you must renew your identity card to change your place of residence (for Luxembourg citizens).<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Waste bins: if you move into a house, you can obtain your different waste separation bins from your local council's hygiene department.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The parking sticker: Parking zones and conditions vary from one commune to another, so check with your local administration.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Declaring your dog: you must declare your dog to your new municipality of residence within one month, with the receipt from the previous municipality.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<section id=\"section-3-14695\" class=\"ct-section\" ><div class=\"ct-section-inner-wrap\"><div id=\"div_block-4-14695\" class=\"ct-div-block\" ><div id=\"new_columns-7-14695\" class=\"ct-new-columns\" ><div id=\"div_block-8-14695\" class=\"ct-div-block\" ><div id=\"div_block-14-14695\" class=\"ct-div-block\" ><\/div><\/div><div id=\"div_block-9-14695\" class=\"ct-div-block\" ><h1 id=\"headline-11-14695\" class=\"ct-headline\">What are the property prices at the moment?<\/h1><div id=\"text_block-12-14695\" class=\"ct-text-block\" >Prices are slowing down. Interest rates are rising. Here is a non-exhaustive list:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your bank(s)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your insurers (house, car,..)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The CCSS (Joint Social Security Centre)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The CNAP (National Pension Insurance Fund)<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The SNCA (Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nationale de contr\u00f4le technique), for the change of address on your registration certificate<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your employer<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your children's school<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your newspaper or magazine subscriptions<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Your mobile phone operator<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Etc...<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Mail forwarding<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To avoid your mail getting lost, don't forget to have your mail forwarded to your new address by the Post Office!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moving house is a time when you already have a lot to think about and organise, but take the time in between packing your boxes to request mail forwarding. Indeed, at least 3 working days before the desired date of the forwarding, make your request online on <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eservices.lu\">www.eservices.lu<\/a> or go to a post office.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Make sure that on the date you indicate for the start of the forwarding, your mailbox already has a label with your name on it, so that it can accommodate your mail.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The duration of the forwarding of your mail is to be indicated at the time of your request and must last at least 1 month, even if we always advise you to take a slightly longer duration to give you time to inform your senders.
