How do you design a laundry room?

This is a small space that many people dream of: the laundry room. It allows you to store washing machines, tumble dryers, ironing boards, clothes and the products that go with them! Here are some tips on how to set up a laundry room at home.

Create your space

The ideal, of course, is to be able to set up your laundry room in a separate room (existing or to be created with doors and partitions). But not everyone has the necessary space... However, you will have to find a minimum if you want to have a functional space, in which you can move around without any problems. 4.5 m² seems to be adequate, with room for a washing machine, tumble dryer, small freezer and storage space. The first two appliances can be placed one on top of the other, or side by side, and covered with a work surface that will be very useful, if only for sorting and folding the laundry. Don't forget to install a good ventilation system and, of course, suitable lighting, as your laundry room is unlikely to have a window.

Furnishing your laundry room

A sort of "utility room", where you can also store certain kitchen utensils and other household appliances, the laundry room must first of all be functional. It therefore requires a maximum of storage space. Once the large appliances have been installed, opt for low cabinets and shelves of all kinds. Boxes will also be very useful. And the accessories will make all the difference in simplifying your life: hooks, magnets, vacuum bags for clothes that are not in season... Multiply them so as to use every corner.

Organising your laundry room

Satisfied with the result? Well, but you shouldn't rest on your laurels. By definition, you're going to put a lot of stuff in your laundry room. It's out of the question to let things get messy, otherwise you risk not being able to find your way around in a few weeks. So think about organising this space well, by grouping your products and equipment by family. Stay practical and make sure that the things you use every day are easily accessible. The fondue set can be stored at the bottom and the suitcase that you only use once a year at the top.
