Setting up a gym at home

You've decided to get back into sport (seriously!). To do this properly, you have the idea of setting up a home gym. But how do you go about it?
Spaces that are just right... and airy
If you have an attic, a garage or a basement, you should know that these are ideal places to set up a gym and install a mat, bike, rowing machine, stepper and other weight bench. The only condition is that the space must be well ventilated, otherwise sweaty odours will quickly invade your new gym. A window is ideal, otherwise you should definitely install a powerful ventilation system.
A solid floor
Another essential prerequisite for the construction of a sports hall is the strength of the floor. You must therefore check (or have checked) its load-bearing capacity and if necessary carry out the necessary work. On average, the floor of a house is designed to support a load of 150 kg/m². A treadmill alone weighs about 100 kg (when you are not on it). Not to mention, if you plan to combine well-being with effort, a jacuzzi: 400 kg/m² on average! Don't hesitate to seek professional advice if you have any doubts about the solidity of your floor and are planning to do some work.
High-performance sound insulation
You can also take advantage of this to reinforce the soundproofing of your future gym. In addition to improving your physical condition, isn't it intended to become a space that is free of time and daily constraints? A double skin for the walls and a floating floor will be perfect, also for your loved ones, who might not be able to stand the sound of weights falling to the floor for very long, for example.
Fine-tuning the decoration
Before installing all the equipment you want, and of course making sure it is easily accessible, you need to fine-tune the decoration of your gym. It is up to you to choose between a soothing atmosphere for relaxation or invigorating colours to encourage dynamism. In any case, think of installing large mirrors on the walls, not to admire yourself but to check your postures, as well as storage space, which will prevent you from leaving accessories and towels lying around.
