A successful move is first and foremost about optimal organisation, to avoid stress, breakages and even delays.

Plan your move well in advance

• Choosing the right time to move: use the calendar to find the best time to move, taking into account your professional obligations, your children's holidays or the start of the school year, as well as the availability of the people or professionals who will help you.
• Book your truck or mover: as soon as your moving period is set, quickly find a truck to rent or get quotes from specialist companies in the sector.
  
• Warn your friends and family early enough to make sure you have help. Moving house is a real team sport!
• Organise childcare and pet care: mobilise grandparents or friends to look after your children for the day. Also think about a solution for your pets.

Packing is not something you can improvise

• Sort, donate, throw away: the first step before you even start packing is to sort. Donate or throw away anything you don't want any more, so you don't have to move unnecessary things.
• Get everything you need: boxes, bubble wrap, blankets, tape, markers, a hand truck etc.
• Pack smart: label each box with the destination item, or colour code each item. Also remember to mark each box with the direction (top/bottom), and the word "fragile" if necessary. Pack the items you don't use much first, then the rest as you go along.
• Secure: special boxes can be used to pack sensitive objects (computer, flat screen, etc.), think about it!
