Newly arrived in Luxembourg? Think about coliving!

Coliving, coworking, carpooling... These words are part of our daily life and we are more and more sensitive to the notion of sharing and living together. But not under any condition! atHome.lu met Nicolas and Aurélien, co-founders of Cocoonut, who place a major emphasis on flexibility, design and community. We tell you all about this concept.

Coliving: a human experience above all

In contrast to sharing, which was intended to save students money, coliving is above all a unique experience for people who have just arrived in a new city or country for professional reasons.
The idea is to have everything ready to welcome future tenants and to offer them a range of services in addition to having a bathroom, a private room and common areas. For Nicolas, co-founder of Cocoonut, the promise of coliving is that "the only problem for tenants who arrive at our place is knowing what they are going to put in their suitcase".

Indeed, coliving is somewhere between a hotel, which is a very short-term solution, and the very classic and basic shared apartment. The objective of coliving is to offer a place to live with high-standing services and an all-inclusive rent. For example, no more classic cleanliness and bathroom conflicts: here, each room has a private bathroom and a weekly cleaning is planned by a team of professionals. The colivers will be able to enjoy a meal together without the main topic being "who should do the cleaning today?"

Luxembourg, ideal land for coliving

It is important to note that Luxembourg has the second highest immigration rate in Europe. Half of the residents in the Grand Duchy are expatriates. Most of them are therefore confronted on their arrival with the difficulties associated with finding accommodation: high demand, high rents, plus agency fees, deposits and furniture. In short, we are not teaching you anything, moving in is expensive but coliving allows you to keep costs down without compromising on the interior!

Aurélien and Nicolas have noticed that more than half of the people who have contacted them come from outside Europe. These people are all the more interested in the flexibility and community aspect that coliving offers. Indeed, coliving allows tenants to get closer to their employer and to the community with which they will share a part of their life.

An advantage for tenants & landlords

By using operators such as Cocoonut, investors and property owners can optimise the return on their property, which will be higher than a traditional rental.
Thanks to Cocoonut's total management, the owners ensure that the property is respected and maintained: on the one hand, thanks to the establishment of a charter and internal rules to avoid problems and nuisances from neighbours, and on the other hand, by including services such as weekly cleaning by professionals.

Could the future be in the "co-"?

Co-living, co-working, carpooling... The notion of living together is a fundamental trend as we realise that we are sharing more and more resources. A few years ago, this started with sharing one's car, then one's workspace. The next step is to go further by sharing everything that can be shared in one's daily life while putting clear barriers on the "private" part.

Although coliving has existed for several years in Luxembourg, the creation of Cocoonut shows that this concept is gaining momentum and meeting the needs of residents. Indeed, astudy called "one shared house in 2030" shows that we will be more and more inclined to use this type of co-living with the main reason being the desire to keep a social link: in 2030, there will be 70% of us living in cities!
