FAQ's for first time buyers

When you are planning to buy your first property, there are a lot of questions. Here are the answers to some of them.

How much should my contribution be?

You must be able to contribute at least 10 % of the total cost of the purchase. The larger your contribution, the better the terms of the mortgage you take out. Start by working out your budget very precisely and finding out about the property market.

In my search, should I focus on the property or the geographical area?

Buying a property is often a matter of love at first sight. It is of course essential to find a property that appeals to you, as you will be living there for several years. However, the geographical area is just as important. It depends on where you want to live, your budget, its proximity to your workplace and your lifestyle in general. In the first instance, it allows you to narrow down your search area.

Where do I start my research?

The easiest way is of course the Internet, whether it is the classified ad sites or those of real estate agencies.

Is it better to buy a flat or a house?

It all depends on your budget, where you buy and of course your preferences. Buying a house is often attractive, but a flat should be favoured in a city, especially if it is your first purchase. This allows you to buy at a lower cost, which can later help you to buy a house.

Should I use an estate agent?

This is always preferable. Even though there will be an agency fee, an estate agent will help you with your search, arrange visits and, most importantly, take care of all the paperwork.

What are the property prices at the moment?

Prices are slowing down. Interest rates are rising. What are the trends for the coming months?
