Should I change the locks on my new house?
When you move in, whether you buy or rent, changing the locks in your new home is essential. While security is often the main reason for replacing your locks, your insurance may also require it.
Why change the locks in your house when you renovate?
Buying an old house or flat means buying a property that has already had a life. Even if the previous owners give you one or two sets of keys, you cannot be sure that duplicates are no longer in circulation. Cleaning ladies, relatives, neighbours may have kept the keys to what has now become your home.
Changing your locks is all the more important if your house or flat has had work done by outside companies before you arrive. It is therefore impossible to know how many duplicates have been made. Replacing the locks, but also the codes for the garage remote control, is a means of protection against theft.
Theft and insurance
You are insured against theft ? That's fine! Just be aware that in the event of a burglary, most insurance companies will not pay out if there has been no break-in.
How much does it cost to replace a lock in Luxembourg?
The price of a lock change varies according to the model to be installed and whether or not you call in a professional.
- Changing your lock yourself: in a specialist shop, buying a profile cylinder will cost you between €10 and €70 depending on the security level of the model.
- Calling a locksmith: you are opting for professional equipment and service, of course this has a cost. Even if the average price is €200, you should expect to pay around €450 for a 3-point replacement. The most economical option is to change only the cylinder. For this type of service, prices start at €100.
