How to dress a damaged wall?

One of your walls is damaged and you are planning to do some ceiling work? Have you thought about decorating it before going to great lengths? There are many ways to dress up a damaged wall. Here are our favourites...

Concealing a defect in the height of a wall

A cut, peeling paint, a hole... no matter how small, these kinds of problems often require the entire wall to be repaired. If they are high up, you can conceal them with one of the following decorative tricks:

  1. Wallpaper

It has become a must-have and is available in many different textures and colours. It can be used on an entire wall or sparingly to create a space dedicated to a particular function within a room. Use one or more strips to dress up your wall and hide its defects.

  1. Frames and mirrors

Photographs, paintings or vintage-inspired plaques, wall decorations are a simple option to hide an imperfection in a wall. Opt for the maxi frame that dresses up a large space on its own, or for numerous frames and mirrors of different sizes and materials. This solution makes it possible to hide several imperfections without undertaking renovation work.

  1. The carpet

Although in our western countries we tend to use rugs exclusively on the floor, there is nothing to stop us from taking inspiration from oriental decorating trends and hanging them on our walls. The wall carpet should be light and graphic. The defects of the wall will be perfectly camouflaged and will leave room for a decoration of ethnic or contemporary inspiration according to the design of the carpet chosen.

Camouflaging an imperfection in the bottom of a wall

Does your wall have defects that are below the metre? There are several ways to conceal them:

  1. Wooden or stone substructure

Ideal for dressing up a badly damaged wall, the decorative wooden base adds a certain elegance to your interior. Easy to paint, it also looks great in white for a very chic Haussmann style. Do you prefer stone to wood? Create a wall base with facing stones. There are many shades of stone on the market, from the very classic sand colour to the contemporary black.

  1. The wooden cladding panel

To be painted or already printed, the wooden panel allows you to hide more or less important damages. A contemporary version of honey-coloured panelling, it adds identity to your room. You can use it as a base by finishing it with a decorative moulding, or you can opt to cover the damaged wall completely. Moreover, wood panelling is an excellent thermal and sound insulator.

Concealing a defect in a wall will save you from extensive work that often extends beyond the damaged area. You can thus enjoy a pleasantly decorated interior while waiting for the right moment to carry out your work.
