Bonnevoie, a young and dynamic district

Located in the south-east of Luxembourg City, Bonnevoie is a quiet, multicultural residential area where life is good. Its connections to public transport, its local services, its sports and cultural offer as well as its green spaces are among its main attractions.

From an administrative point of view, Bonnevoie is separated into two entities: Bonnevoie-Sud and Bonnevoie-Nord. Nevertheless, in everyday life, both form a homogeneous whole, without distinction. Covering an area of just over 3km2Bonnevoie is the most densely populated district in the capital. With its 16,448 residents (figures as at 31/12/2015), it accounts for 14.9% of the population of Luxembourg City.

Bonnevoie, heterogeneous and committed

Bonnevoie is characterised by a large social mix, which gives it a special atmosphere. A large part of the population is of foreign origin. Along with the Luxembourgers, the Portuguese, French, Italians, Belgians, Germans and Spaniards are the most strongly represented nationalities. Another interesting socio-demographic fact is that many families with children and young workers have chosen to settle in Bonnevoie. The district also has a high proportion of homeowners. In addition, many residents are active in the neighbourhood's community life. It is therefore very dynamic and highly committed.

Culture and sport on the programme

In order to satisfy the needs of its resident families, Bonnevoie has nurseries, schools, school residences and a technical high school. In addition, the district has quality sports facilities: a municipal swimming pool, a sports hall, gymnasiums, a tennis club, football pitches, including the Achille Hammerel and Camille Polfer stadiums, which are home to Racing FC Union Luxembourg, etc. In a constant effort to improve, the City aims to strengthen and extend its school and leisure facilities in Bonnevoie.

The Bonnevoie district is also home to a large cultural centre as well as "Les Rotondes", a major cultural venue in Luxembourg. This is an opportunity for residents to attend a wide range of events such as shows, plays, concerts, conferences and workshops for all ages.

Favourable mobility

Another advantage is the excellent connection to the public transport network. Buses serve the district frequently and quickly. Eight "vel'oh!" stations have also been set up for travel throughout the capital. In this context, a cycle route at the Büchler Bridge provides access to the station area and the city centre. Finally, geographically bounded on one side by the Alzette and on the other by the railway tracks, Bonnevoie is in the immediate vicinity of the Central Station. The pedestrian bridge was renovated in 2013 in order to better connect the Place de la Gare and Bonnevoie. In order to strengthen soft mobility within the entity, the City will soon build more cycle paths and pedestrian paths.

Building projects and new developments underway

Bonnevoie is one of the fastest growing districts in the capital. Since 2012, the number of inhabitants has increased by approximately 5%. Among the most popular locations for these new residents are Verlorenkost and Kaltreis. These are the newest neighbourhoods in Bonnevoie, but also the most upmarket in terms of construction. To keep up with the growing population, several real estate projects are underway. In particular, the City of Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Société Nationale des Habitations à Bon Marché, will create 750 housing units in the area known as "Itzegerknupp". In Rue Anatole France, 135 housing units are planned.

The district is urban, but has several valuable green spaces and playgrounds that its residents enjoy every day. The nearby Alzette, the small gardens in Schläifmillen and Verlorenkost, the water tower park in Kaltreis and the renovated Place du Parc in the centre of Bonnevoie are all good places to walk and relax. In order to further improve the quality of residential life, the city will create new green areas and redesign some of the squares.
