5 storage ideas for small kitchens

No matter how small your kitchen is, it must be functional. We have studied the issue and have come up with our best ideas for making your small kitchen pleasant to live in and perfectly tidy.

1. Provide as much storage as possible

Dishes, small appliances, pantry... so many everyday objects that you can't do without and that you need to be able to store. There is only one solution: have enough furniture. If you tend to want to ventilate the space in a small room, in a small kitchen it is better to furnish the entire wall. Opt for sufficient wall and base units. Columns should be avoided, as they encroach on the worktop, which is essential for a small, functional kitchen.

2. Favouring integrated appliances

Fridge, oven and why not coffee machine... if you invest in a fitted kitchen, it may be interesting to integrate all these elements into your furniture. More aesthetic and less bulky, built-in appliances are the solution to unify the room while saving a maximum of space.

3. Use walls as storage space

Walls and credenzas should be exploited to the full! Storage bars for utensils, spice shelves, wall lights or hanging plants... you can take advantage of these free spaces to decorate or optimise your kitchen storage.

4. Exploiting angles

A corner is often regarded as dead space. However, if used properly, this area can provide you with additional storage space. Invest in a made-to-measure unit or opt for a kitchen designer's revolving corner unit.

5. Create separate spaces

Just because you don't have a lot of space doesn't mean you can't give certain areas of your kitchen distinct functions. Create a temporary dining area with a folding table or a custom coffee corner. Placing your dishwasher next to your sink makes sense, as does placing your fruit basket next to the fridge.

The last essential point before fitting out a small kitchen: sorting! Concentrate on the essentials, opt for a few objects that are as practical as they are attractive and avoid overloading the worktop. You should also know that light colours will visually enlarge the space and that lacquered furniture reflects light better than matt surfaces.
