Ideas for a reading corner

Whether alone or with the family, time spent reading books is a time to relax and let go. Whatever the size of your home, you can create a reading corner. Here are a few ideas for doing so.

A corner that suits you

What a pleasure it is to be just a step away from the bookcase and sit comfortably in your chosen book! Many of us are content with the sofa or an armchair in the living room for our reading break. It is possible to create a reading corner dedicated solely to this activity, even in flats with limited space.

Vintage, zen, uncluttered, bucolic... whatever the atmosphere, a reading corner must first of all resemble you! Of course, if you decide to install it in the living room, it will also have to harmonise with the decoration of the latter. But other places can do the trick: a small room, a corner of the bedroom, an alcove, a nook or even a corridor.

Reading corner essentials

For your reading corner, you can choose a few essential elements, starting with an armchair, a bench, a hammock... in short, whatever you want, as long as you are comfortable. Decorate the seat with cushions, plaids, etc. to curl up in. A pedestal table or coffee table may also be necessary, if only to place books and cups of tea on. Finally, light plays a very important role. Prefer natural light by arranging the reading corner in front of a window, and if necessary, install suitable lighting, i.e. lighting that diffuses direct light without being blinding. On the other hand, forget about knick-knacks and other objects that would overload the place: focus on serenity.

Ideas for implementation

If you lack space but are lucky enough to have a niche in a wall, take advantage of it to install the shelves of your library... and a good armchair nearby.

Another clever idea is to create a bench on top of boxes or a low storage unit to hold books.
