It's the holidays: follow our advice to avoid being burgled
You're not leaving, beware of homejacking
Some burglars break into houses in broad daylight, even if the inhabitants are present. This practice is called homejacking. In some cases, these robberies can be violent, especially if the thief is surprised by the owner.
Our advice: always lock your door, even during the day. This will prevent burglars from entering your home if you are in your garden or on your terrace.
Beware of social networks
You are happy to be going on holiday and tell your friends on social networks... be careful. Social networks are a mine of useful information for burglars who can find your contact details, information about your next holiday...
Our advice: protect your information by creating a private profile and avoiding making your details available to everyone.
Be careful with roof windows
Some burglars do not hesitate to enter the house through roof windows, and it is often made easier for them by leaving these windows open.
Our advice: remember to close your roof windows when you are away and fit them with a security system to prevent them from opening.
What are the property prices at the moment?
Night flight
Some burglars prefer to operate at night when it is quieter, even if the homeowner is present. Again, the theft can become violent if the owner wakes up and surprises the burglars.
Our advice: remember to close your windows and lock your front door before going to bed. Do not leave your car keys and handbag in the entrance of your home.
Protect your PVC windows
Another technique used by thieves is to melt PVC door or window frames with a blowtorch, thus opening the windows very quickly.
The solution: If you have PVC windows, the safest thing to do is to close your shutters when you are away. If you have to change your windows, opt for aluminium frames.
Pre-burglary scouting
Burglars often scout before they move on to the theft stage. They find out what time you leave in the morning and what time you return in the evening, for example.
Our advice: install an alarm system with video surveillance. Burglars are quickly put off by such equipment.
Protect your front door
Most burglars enter through the front door. There are various ways to open or break the door... not to mention the times when the door is not locked.
Our advice: equip yourself with at least a three-point lock... or opt for a good quality armoured door.
