Spring cleaning your home naturally

An essential step before the arrival of the summer season, cleaning your home will be NATURAL in 2020. Find all our clever recipes for an ecological cleaning.

Essential ingredients for natural cleaning

Does making DIY (do it yourself) cleaners seem complicated? Follow the guide. To get started, you'll need a few essential (natural) products that are very easy to obtain.

  • White vinegar
  • Bicarbonate of soda
  • Lemons (lots of them)
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Essential oils
  • A spray bottle, preferably in glass

White vinegar to clean everything in your home

Even if its smell is not necessarily the most delicate, white vinegar is very effective (and inexpensive) for cleaning ... just about everything in the house. For floors and windows, mix it with hot water and a few drops of lemon or lavender essential oil before dipping your microfibre cloth in it and wiping it over the entire surface. Another tip is to use a spray bottle in which citrus peels are infused with vinegar for a few days before using it as a regular cleaner. To descale toilets, pour one to two cups into the bowl and add 180g of baking soda. Leave for a few minutes before flushing. In a dishwasher safe bowl, use it to degrease the machine by running it hot (and empty).

The secrets of baking soda

It removes all grease stains, but can also be used to disinfect mattresses. Mix 5g of tea tree essential oil (for its antiseptic properties) with 250g of bicarbonate. Stir and leave to act before vacuuming. This recipe also works for the car seats in your car. What else? Spread it on a small plate and put it in a cupboard or in the fridge to get rid of bad smells.

Lemon, an excellent disinfectant

Descaling, disinfecting and deodorising, lemon is the friend of a clean house! Mirrors, showers, bathtubs and microwaves can be cleaned with a little water and the juice squeezed out of them. Applied to a sponge, it removes limescale and makes taps shine. Do you have a wine, rust or grass stain on your clothes? Rub it with half of it, leave it to work and wash it in the washing machine. It can also be used to purify the air in the house with the following recipe:

  • 1 lemon, cut up (yellow or green)
  • 2 tablespoons rosemary
  • 2 cloves
  • A few drops of essential oil (lavender or citrus)

Simmer in a saucepan for one hour with water, wait for it to evaporate. Fresh air guaranteed!

These simple recipes are both economical and environmentally friendly and allow us to clean the whole house without damaging our health. What are your tips? Share them in the comments!
