Our tips for a successful holiday rental

Scams, non-existent or non-compliant rentals, it doesn't just happen to other people.
atHome advises you on how to limit the risks and prevent your holiday from turning into a nightmare.

To ensure a successful rental, follow a few simple rules:

1. Never pay the full amount of the rent before you arrive at the property. A deposit of 30% is customary.

2. Read the contract carefully. It must be written in duplicate and signed by both parties.

3. Ask for the exact address of your holiday rental and check its existence in the phone book or on a map.

4. Has the owner confirmed your booking? Ask your friends to call back and book the same property on the same date. You'll find out whether the owner is looking to rent out a non-existent property indefinitely.

5. Visit forums and community spaces to check that others have not already reported a scam on the rental you are interested in.

If in doubt, the wisest thing to do is to choose another location that also matches your wishes!
