Scam: renting and buying property safely

Scams in classified ads regularly make the news. Despite the vigilance of Internet sites, and of atHome.lu, fraudulent ads can escape control.

Nobody is immune to malicious people, so we remind you and advise you to be wary in the following situations.

  • Bargains", whose characteristics seem to be out of the market. Overpriced rents or houses with extraordinarily low sale prices (compare with other similar properties in the same town or neighbourhood)
  • Fake owners who only communicate by e-mail and never answer the phone.
  • False owners who claim that they cannot show the property. Who often say they are abroad.
  •  Unusual requests, such as providing personal documents.
  • A request for payment of a deposit, or a guarantee. Or a payment to visit the property. The criminals will demand payment by bank transfer, or payment via Western Union.

Never pay money before you have visited a property.

If you have any doubts about a property advertisement, please contact our Customer Service.

Finally, to avoid disappointment in your property search, use the services of a property professional.
