Can you send notice by e-mail?

Anyone wishing to end their tenancy must notify their landlord or estate agent. They must also give notice. How do you go about leaving your rented property? Can you give notice by sending an e-mail to your landlord?

How much notice do I have to give?

The first thing to remember is that, in most cases, the period of notice for a rented property is the length of the lease. vacuum is 3 months (except exceptional cases). For a furnished flat, this is 1 month.

Another important point to know: the period of notice begins on the day the termination letter is received by the landlord. Not the day it is sent by the tenant.
For example, if the landlord receives the letter on 30 March, the lease will end on 30 June.

However, for the lease termination to be valid, there are still a few rules to be observed when sending the letter.

Can I send my notice by e-mail?

Terminate the lease by e-mail is not valid. And that's even if the landlord gives you his agreement by return e-mail.

You should therefore never use this method to cancel your rental contract. If you do, your application will be cancelled.

To give notice to your landlord, you must send a letter by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipthand in your hand-delivered letter against a signature or receipt, or notify your departure by bailiff's deed.

As you will have realised, a simple e-mail is not enough to give notice to the landlord or estate agent. Make sure you do things properly, and you'll avoid any nasty surprises!
