The illusion of grandeur

First of all, it is important to know that vertical lines will elongate your room. Horizontal lines would make the bathroom look more compact. If you opt for paint or wallpaper, keep this detail in mind as it can make a big difference.

Laying square tiles from floor to ceiling can also make your bathroom look bigger.

Another way to give the illusion of grandeur is to underline the edges of the ceiling with a strip of tiles or paint.

Lights and mirrors

It is well known that using mirrors is a good way to add depth and width to a space. But be careful not to overdo it. There's no need to put mirrors on every wall. One mirror is enough. The mirror will help to distribute light in the room thanks to the openings to the outside (windows, skylights, portholes, etc.).

Clear shower panels will provide more light and therefore more space. An unframed, undecorated shower panel avoids "visual barriers" and will look great in a small bathroom.

Light is a very important factor in creating space: it is especially important to get rid of shadowy corners. If you don't have enough natural light, a good plan is to place shelves on the walls near the ceiling and fix spotlights underneath.

The colour

The key word is simplicity. For example, don't use wallpaper that is overloaded with patterns, otherwise the room will look even smaller.

Pastel walls and a light floor also serve to make the room look bigger. We advise you to use natural or white tones. A few natural or coloured accessories can be added to create a warm decor in your bathroom.

Tiles

Large tiles create space. They require narrower joints and therefore provide a much more aesthetic appearance.

The feeling of space can be increased by clearing the floor. This can be the case with a wall-hung toilet and a wall-mounted washbasin.

Cupboards, sink and bath

Raised units are an ideal way to add space, as they are not placed on a bulky structure. However, when choosing one of these, keep in mind your storage needs and try to find one with small shelves.

There are small cupboards or chests of drawers that you can slide into the available space to store your things. Don't leave things lying around in your bathroom, as this will accentuate the smallness of the room.

Doors

Sliding doors provide more space than a conventional door.
If you use a "normal" door, don't overload your walls with a towel rail. The trick is to hang them on the back of the door!
