Property search: instructions for use

Are you moving house and looking for the perfect home? Define your criteria, select ads, visit... be sure to find the ideal flat by following our search tips.

Define your selection criteria

The first piece of advice we can give you when looking for a flat is to make a list of your main criteria. Ask yourself what is really important to you, but also what might be blocking you. Keep these criteria in mind during your visits and think about them again before you sign a rental agreement.

Targeting research

Finding a flat or house can quickly become a time-consuming activity. To optimise your time, concentrate your search where you are most likely to find a maximum number of properties that match your criteria. On atHome, we have set up an alert system that lets you know when a new property matching your criteria is published on our real estate classifieds platform. And to be kept informed of new properties, nothing could be easier: download the atHome.lu application on your mobile or tablet and activate the alerts.

Be objective during visits

Take time to reflect on the visit to a flat. On paper, it may be a perfect match for your search, but is it the same in real life? Ask yourself the right questions:
- Could I live here?
- Is the flat bright enough?
- Is the general condition correct?
- Are the sanitary and electrical installations in good condition?
- Is there a blocking point? The rooms are all on one side of the house, the living room is too small, there is no bath...

Take an interest in the direct environment of the flat

The ideal property is also one that is located in a pleasant environment. During your visit, pay attention to possible noises in and around the residence: bus stop right in front, nearby school, disrespectful neighbours...

Be ready to submit your application

If you want to live in Luxembourg City or in a popular commune in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, you'll have to be quick on your feet to make sure you don't miss out on the accommodation you're after. A word of advice, prepare your file and take it with you when you visit. You can then give it to the estate agent or owner directly. As a reminder, your application file should include copies of the following documents
- Salary slips
- Tax notice
- Identity card or passport
- Work certificate
