Property prices on the other side of the border

In Luxembourg, property prices are rising steadily every year. In 2018 alone, the sale price of a house or flat rose by an average of 5 %. Faced with this situation, more and more of us are considering living in France, Germany or Belgium. And you, at what price would you be ready to leave Luxembourg?

Property prices in a popular commune in Luxembourg

Luxembourg, Ettelbruck, Esch-sur-Alzette, Hesperange, Mamer... these municipalities have one thing in common: they are the most popular in their region.
The average price of apartments* for sale varies enormously depending on the municipality: €777,000 for a flat in Luxembourg, €717,000 in Mamer, €699,000 in Hesperange, €434,000 in Ettelbruck and €359,000 in Esch-sur-Alzette

*The prices mentioned are taken from atHome Magazine October 2018 and calculated according to the ads published on the atHome.lu website in 2018.

Living in Arlon: how much does it cost

Situated a few kilometres from Luxembourg, the town of Arlon is a stronghold for border residents. Its pretty shopping centre almost makes you forget the lack of alternative transport solutions to the car to reach the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It's the train or nothing! Its advantage? Property prices up to 50 % cheaper than in Luxembourg City. But beware: in 5 years, property prices have increased by 12.1 %. While the average price of a flat is €171,000, we know that Belgians are particularly fond of houses. With a reasoned increase of 5 % in 5 years, the average price of a house in Arlon and its surroundings is €255,000.

Buying in Thionville and working in Luxembourg

Well served by public transport, Thionville has regular links with Luxembourg. Train, bus, Luxembourg house... the city really plays the card of border proximity. The real estate offer is diversifying and luxury residences are more and more in demand. The average price of a flat in Thionville is €174,000. Prices are €30,000 higher than in Metz, but much lower than in Zoufftgen or Hettange-Grande.

Leaving Luxembourg to live in Germany

Does the language barrier not scare you? In that case, the German border towns also offer cheaper accommodation than in Luxembourg. Trier is a lively city, offering a dynamic lifestyle and quick access to the Luxembourg East motorway, its airport and the Munsbach industrial estate. The average price of a flat in Trier is €179,000, which is relatively equivalent to Thionville or Arlon. Would you prefer a quieter area? Perl, the town where the Moselle wine route begins, offers a green setting. Just cross the bridge to Schengen to get to the Saar motorway (A13). Bus line 315 connects Perl with Luxembourg station. Bus lines 184 and 185 also connect Schengen to the centre of Luxembourg, especially to Kirchberg. Property prices are higher than in Trier, with an average price of €236,000 for a flat.

The plains of the province of Luxembourg, the vineyards of the Moselle, a picturesque German village or dynamic Luxembourg? Tell us all about it: where would you put your suitcases if the "property price" factor did not enter into your choice?
