5 reasons to live in Clervaux

In the north of the Grand Duchy, in the canton of the same name, Clervaux is one of the largest municipalities in the country. Its development has accelerated since its merger with the municipalities of Heinerscheid and Munshausen in 2011. Clervaux and its landscapes are attracting more and more inhabitants, both Luxembourgers and non-Luxembourgers.

The municipality of Clervaux is located in the heart of the Luxembourg Ardennes (also known as Oesling). It currently has about 5,000 inhabitants.

1. tourism

Surrounded by the Natural Park of the Our, Clervaux is characterised by its rural character and landscape. It is an ideal destination for nature lovers. Its location attracts many tourists and border residents. The tourist character of Clervaux is undoubtedly one of its main strengths: the castle of Clervaux, built in 1129, houses the municipal administration as well as several museums and exhibitions, such as the Museum of Models and Castles of Luxembourg, the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge Clervaux but also the photo exhibition "The Family of Man" opened in 2013.

2. The culture

The municipality can also count on its numerous cultural infrastructures since, in addition to its multi-purpose hall with 1,500 seats and its four cultural centres (located respectively in Lieler, Hupperdange, Heinerscheid and Munshausen), it inaugurated the CUBE 521 in 2007. This house of modern culture is the only one of its kind north of Ettelbruck and attracts not only the inhabitants of the region, but also border residents. The CUBE 521 includes a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of 300 people, a foyer and several rehearsal rooms.

3. School provision

Clervaux has a range of facilities to meet everyone's needs. In terms of education, the municipality has a school centre located in Reuler. This "campus", which is the pride of the municipality, includes all cycles, a sports hall, sports fields, a relay house and a media library. On 11 May 2015, the first stone of the future Lycée de Clervaux was laid. This high school, at the cutting edge of new technologies, will complete the local school offer. The project also includes a swimming pool and a sports complex with indoor and outdoor courts. All these buildings will be constructed with sustainable materials.

4. Accessibility

Close to Belgium and Germany, the commune is crossed by several major roads. As far as public transport is concerned, Clervaux is well served by CFL trains, in particular by the Luxembourg City - Troisvierges line, then Liège. In the 17 localities of the municipality of Clervaux, 23 bus lines of the Régime Général des Transports Routiers (RGTR) serve more than 50 stops.

5. New housing

In view of the growing population and the high demand for housing, the municipality of Clervaux intends to create new housing. It is classified as a priority in the Housing Sector Plan because of its status as a development and attraction centre (CDA). However, the town is classified as both a "priority area for housing development" and an "area for the preservation of large landscapes", which limits the amount of usable space.

In order to ensure a variety of urban housing, the municipality is planning an affordable housing project in Munshausen. These high-quality flats are intended for young households or small families, as well as for people with reduced mobility.

In addition to these new housing areas, there will be two economic activity zones (ZAE): a specific national zone (SP-n (AT)) of 5ha in Marnach, reserved for audiovisual and telecommunication activities, and an ECO-r1 regional activity zone in Fischbach.
