Tips for selling your property in winter

Everyone will tell you: winter is not the ideal time to sell a property. But sometimes you have no choice. Rest assured, if this is your case, there are still buyers at this time of year, and even better, buyers who are apparently very interested.

Well-kept exteriors

Potential buyers arrive at your home... You have 90 seconds to make a good impression. If you have an exterior, it is out of the question to present an abandoned garden under the pretext that it is cold outside. On the contrary, the exterior must be clean, the fences and gate impeccable, the hedges trimmed, the leaves picked up, etc. No tools should be left lying around, and the garden should be kept clean. No tools will be lying around, the garden furniture will be put away. In fact, you need to show that on the one hand you are taking care of the outside (and therefore the whole house), and on the other hand that it is a beautiful garden that is just sleeping and that will reveal its full glory in the spring.

You can also beautify the outside of your property by investing in some cold-resistant plants such as Christmas roses, pansies, primroses and other shrubs (camellia, winter honeysuckle, etc.). We also advise you to make the terrace pleasant, by cleaning it of course, but also by adding lanterns and, why not, a brazier.

A cosy interior like a cocoon

For the interior of the house, you must think "cosy cocoon", including thelighting which you can use to highlight rooms. Indeed, except for those facing south, it is useless to count on the help of the sun and natural light.

But first of all, looking for buyers in winter does not exempt you from the basics of selling real estate: de-cluttering, depersonalizing, repairing what needs to be repaired, taking care of the finishing touches and cleaning the home from top to bottom. Then you can create a friendly atmosphere, inspired for example by the principles of Danish hygge. Throw plaids on the sofas and armchairs, cover your bed with the softest duvet, warm the floor with a discreet carpet, add candles here and there...

When it comes to lighting, the mistake would be to multiply the watts thinking that your rooms will be better seen. On the contrary, comfort your visitors by installing different light sources, at all levels, from the floor to the shelves. They might already feel at home!
